2011 as you may have read in my latest book, It's Simply Serendipity, was the worst and BEST year of my life. I literally lost everything beginning with miscarrying a child. That was the most difficult loss of the year, even more so than losing my home.
By the time May, 2011 rolled around, I felt as though I was on this downward spiral and desperately needed guidance and support. I decided in May to shift my perspective on life and begin to focus on what I was truly grateful for. I began writing in my journal five things I was grateful for on a daily basis. It was a wonderful exercise that helped me carry on. One day as I was heading to morning Mass at my local church in Sausalito, I came across this blue jay. She just sat there on the branch of this tree and looked at me. I felt an instant connection, but didn't understand it at the time.
As days went by, it seemed every time I was out, I would always come across Bleu. She would follow me everywhere. I enjoyed her visits, especially on those days that were most difficult. Her visits continued for months and even into 2012 when I didn't have a home. I would bounce around from place to place, sleeping on friend's sofas, yet somehow she always found me.
As I type this I'm smiling as the song "You Are Not Alone" by Michael Jackson is playing on the radio. It's true. We are never alone, even when we feel we are. Someone OR something is always looking after us, just like Bleu. About two weeks after moving into my new home in April, 2012 Bleu came to see me. She sat on a branch of the tree outside my home and I said hello. I told her that I would be there for a while and thanked her for always looking after me. Last year when I experienced more transformation and had to leave my home, Bleu found me one day to assure me I was not alone.
It's such an amazing feeling to know we are always being looked after, and for as long as I live, I will never forget this beautiful little bird who was there when I needed her most.
Thanks Bleu!
