When I returned to the Bay Area, I felt as though I was beginning a new chapter in my life. The time in Baltimore was precisely what I needed, a time to uncover limiting beliefs, reclaim my power that I had given away yet again to yet another man, and start anew. I was determined to find my way back to that strong, independent woman I once was, but instead of looking back, I was now looking forward.
Once settled back in the Nob Hill home I continued my search for a home of my own. As much as I loved the house I had found on Wolfback Ridge, I wasn’t ready to pour all of my money into one pot. I continued my search and found a couple places that appeared promising. One was a two bedroom apartment near my loft and another a room for rent in same neighborhood. As much as I wanted a place of my own, the cost was steep and I really wanted to be cautious since I knew how quickly life could change.
After weighing all of my options I decided to go with the room for rent. It was $850/month plus a full month security deposit. I was just about to write out the check to the landlord when he contacted me. He informed me that his current tenant who was originally slated to move out October 1st had decided to stay another month, so the room wouldn’t be available until November 1st. I was disappointed and frustrated. I had been without a home for six months and yearned for some stability.
With another month of not having a home I needed to make some decisions. I knew I needed to leave the Nob Hill house in a few days and had to figure out where I would go next. I was tired. My back was sore and I really needed a break. I had a little bit of money now to work with so I decided to use the month of October for some much needed self-care.
When it comes to personal self-care, there is one thing that makes me truly happy and that’s going to the beach. I love laying on the sand with the sun beaming down on my face and the sounds of seagulls and ocean waves crashing. To me, that is bliss. With this in mind I decided that I would take the next few weeks and spend them in Southern California. I would go to Santa Monica for ten days, return to the Bay Area for my book launch party, and then visit San Diego. I would then return to Sausalito and move into the room for rent on November 1st.
